Will the Virginia Tech tragedy put gun control on the political agenda?

Will the Virginia Tech tragedy put gun control on the political agenda? Will the Virginia Tech tragedy put gun control on the political agenda?
Did Columbine or the incident involving the Amish school? I seriously doubt that this administration will take a look at any type of handgun control legislation. It's usually a state-by-state system that regulates sells of arms. Virginia's is one of the laxest in the country. I think that the issue will be talked about--again--but nothing will be done to change it. Also, in the 60's, following the assassinations of President Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Senator Robert Kennedy, this subject was brought up. Again, little was done because of gun lobbyists. I don't ever think that the Constitution will be changed to take away an Americans right to bear arms. Another solution is tougher punishment that fits the crimes. Will the Virginia Tech tragedy put gun control on the political agenda?
With the Dem's in power... you bet! Reminds me of the Clinton days, Bill that is. Hillary has a nice shot though (no pun intended). I support the second amendment. Senseless killings happen everywhere, not just in the US. Everything from Airplanes (IE 9/11) , poison gas (Japanese Subway), to Machetties (Rwanda genocide) are used. They are used by terrorist, demented individuals, and even governments run by demented individuals. If you think the human condition will someday evolve to a peacefull coexistence thru banning guns, you may be one of those individuals. Thomas Jefferson wrote ';Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.'; He was quoting Cesare Beccaria in 1764 On Crimes and Punishment.
No, not likely.

It's the one subject that will cost the parties the votes.
Probably. He purchased the guns legally from what I've heard. Let's not forget that most bad guys who committ gun violence (such as gangs) purchase most of their firearms illegally.
It already has. Just look right here at Y/A. Our politicians are suave enough to give the families enough grieving time before the issue is brought to bear. Too soon and it is political suicide.

It will be mentioned in an upcoming presidential debate, spun this way or that, just to pander for votes. In the end, the second amendment will be upheld.
Well tell me when you think it would be more convenient or mild for people to finally deal with this issue.
yes...but it is unlikey that anything will come out of it.
The will put a few things on the plate...to keep the crowd pleased.

But I don't believe anyone in Virginia would be willing to lose their guns...no matter what the cost.
probably, but not for the reasons you think. it was the ineptitude of thje local police that allowed the shootings to continue. the idiots ';thought'; the shooting was over. they never even considered that the gunman was still around and preparing to kill some more. they stood around with their heads up their a--es until the shooter had killed several more.
maybe people will start to wonder why this sort of thing never happens on military academies.
Yes it will, but not in the way liberals want it to. -This is because gun control causes crime. Gun control has never worked anywhere so why cite it as a solution? Gun control is for Stalin and Hitler, not free Americans.

I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

The killer alone caused the crime, but the high number of victims is directly caused by gun control. The Virginia Tech killer never registered his gun, so why cite registration as a solution?

They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson. Concealed-carry advocates warned us all long ago to expect tragedies like this as long as we have gun control.

When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like ';notifications.'; Up to two million Americans defend themselves with guns and citizens with guns legally kill two times as many would-be killers as do police!

In a state where concealed-carry is allowed or promoted, the loss of life could have been much less. He may have shot one or two, but a concealed-carrier would have dispatched him right quick.

Sadly there is no way to prevent a killer with a gun. In tribal Africa where there are no manufactured guns, tribesman make them from pipes and rubber-bands so clearly gun control is not the answer. You can make a gun out of wood in an hour! He could have stabbed just as many with a knife.

Since you will never stop the OFFENSE, we must allow ourselves a DEFENSE. We are not all of one culture anymore, so violence will only increase.

HB 1572 was a Virginia state bill to allow college students to carry arms on campus to protect themselves from tragedies like what happened at Virginia Tech. The bill was defeated

The spokesman for Virginia Tech was happy to hear the bill [HB 1572] was defeated. ';I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.';

The fact is NOT passing the bill allowing students to defend themselves caused many more deaths. States that pass concealed-carry laws experience lower crime rates, Texas is a good example of this.

The only way to prevent these killing rampages is concealed-carry. Would you rather protect yourself or wait for the folly of police or school ';notification?”
I hope so, but the god, guns, and guts types will fight it tooth and nail.
Yeah, I'll bet Hitlery Cliton and Charlie ';******'; Schumer are tuning up their gun-thieving rhetoric RIGHT NOW!! LMAO! !

Above and beyond the fact that the VT authorities SAW this coming, they HELPED it by creating a weapon's free, no self-defense zone by denying the law-abiding faculty and students their right to armed self defense on campus. If ONE of the faculty or students had been armed, as is their right under U.S. and state law, not nearly as many may not have died!

I hope that the survivors and families of any of the victims that had VA state Concealed Weapons Permits SUE the VT administration and VA State for wrongful death of the victims!
Sorry they already are looking into again. And what they want is guns out of the hands of criminals. If the school itself would have reported the incidents this student was accused of (arson in a dorm - stalking the young women - his threats) this wouldn't have happened. The gun shop owner would have had that information when he conducted the background checks and this kid would not have been able to purchase any gun. Unless it was from some thug off the street who was selling stolen guns.
The Neo-Socialists will fight to ban all guns because it threatens their plans of eradicating all our freedoms. Neo-Socialists like Pelosi will never be happy until they push their Anti-American, Pro-IslamoFascist, Pro-homosexual, Anti-Christian agenda down our throats.
yes...right after Sarah Brady had her first orgasm upon hearing about the murders, she called a meeting of her top media advisors and went to work..her new CAUSE had arrived....
Probably not, Columbine didn't. Well, the democrats tried but dubya and the rest of his super dupes thought they wanted every American the right to bear arms, even if it was a

.50 cal! woohoo, go NRA!!!
