Virgina Tech Shooting--Do we need more gun control laws?

Many people will look at this tragedy as an excuse to tighten gun control laws. Would tougher gun control laws solve this problem or should more laws allowing citizens to carry firearms be enacted so that people can fight back if something like this were to ever happen again?

Some will argue for gun control but remember, criminals do not buy guns legally anyway. Gun control only disarms those law abiding citizens.

What is your view?Virgina Tech Shooting--Do we need more gun control laws?
Stricter gun control laws will not prevent future tragedies. You can regulate the type of guns people can own, and even how many guns a person can own, but you can't legislate how a person chooses to use a gun, regardless of how it was obtained.Virgina Tech Shooting--Do we need more gun control laws?
I don't think it's gun control that is the problem. I am neutral on the whole gun control thing, because I believe it's the person behind the gun that decides to kill people. The gun is just an aid in what they want to do. So I do not believe that gun control is the problem. I think that the problem lies within the person holding the gun. Its too early to tell yet, but I'll bet no gun law would have prevented this.
The gun control logic is ridiculous.

We live in a sick society. Fix the illness instead of continually ';safeguarding'; society.

Honestly, sickos like that will not be stopped because of gun control. A person like that could easily have purchased a Hilti powder actuated hammer at Home Depot and modified it into a nail rifle. OR could have just blown up an auditorium with some stolen demolition explosives.

Even if the world were one big padded rubber room, you would not prevent these sick minds from running their course.

The elites know this of course. All attempts at gun control are really attempts at SOCIAL CONTROL!
We don't know what happened yet, so there's no way to answer your question. Once information about the killer is released and we learn how he acquired the guns, then maybe we'll be able to debate gun control.

In general, though, my opinion is that people kill people with or without guns.
My view is that gun control will still protect us to some extent. I'd be curious to see how many of these tragedies occurred using unlawfully purchased guns? I know for a fact many of the senseless ';domestic violence'; related deaths occur to registered gun users. Regardless, our country is one of the most violent countries around, we need to lay the smack down somewhere. Do you really want EVERY idiot to have a gun? Sure, we could protect ourselves if a maniac comes in firing away, but in that situation...what are the chances a normal person would be in the right state of mind to take aim and hit the shooter and not another innocent person? Guns are dangerous period. There's no way to ensure they won't fall into the wrong hands. I believe having stricter laws will lower the death toll. Of course its not going to wipe it out, but why make it any easier for people to acquire guns? If you could tell me that 100% of the murders that have taken place were done with unlawfully purchased guns, i'd say screw gun control. But if not allowing somebody to carry a concealed weapon could save even ONE life, i say it's worth it.
Had some of those folks in the buildings been carrying, maybe someone would have got the shooter before he killed so many.
It has absolutely nothing to do with gun control. Gun control is just laws and, HELLO, criminals don't obey laws, DUH. This is a problem with our society. Kids for the last 15 or so years are being brought up with no idea what respect is. They don't have to respect their parents because basically any kind of punishment is called abuse. That just leads to a lack of repect for everything else. Then, of course, they are being de-sensitized to any kind of violence via movies, games, music etc. so they want to live out these ';fantasies'; in real life with no real feeling for what they are actually doing. This is not going to be the end of it, this society is going down the toilet and people are too binded by dollar signs and liberalism to do anything about it.
I think gun control is counter-productive. Criminals will get their hands on guns whether or not they're legal. Just look at England, they have a complete ban on firearms, yet the criminals still have them. If we promoted gun use, people using guns to commit crimes would have to worry more about if the person they're robbing or whatever also has a gun. It's that fear of ';what if...'; that would keep potential criminals in line.
