Did the Virginia Tech shootings spark criticism of gun control laws in the United States?

Did the Virginia Tech shootings spark criticism of gun control laws in the United States?Did the Virginia Tech shootings spark criticism of gun control laws in the United States?
yes it did, as you know the crime rate is increasing every day

and the people who use guns dont justify for what they use.Did the Virginia Tech shootings spark criticism of gun control laws in the United States?
The 1 thing I don't understand is 1 kid+9mmhandgun=30+ deaths vs. 2 kids+sawn off shotgun+pipe bombs+duffl bag bomb+Tec-9 sub machine gun+other shotgun+20 knives+car bomb=12 deaths

Report Abuse

Yes, for all those who are against weapons this will be thier new poster!! For all those to support the 2nd amendment it is a sad and unwanted example of what happens to inocent people who are defenseless. I am sure that if concealled weapons would have been allowed on campus this ****** would have either thought twice about what he was going to do or someone would have shot his ***. And at least have prevented the death of others later that day.
I heard a question on BBC that was so simple that it was refreshing. The reporter asked ';with this greatest-ever shooting disaster in America's history, do you think there will finally be a movement to recind the 2nd ammendment?';

It really is that simple. But our politics are so convoluted, politicians so afraid to do the right thing due to money and votes, it won't happen. Meanwhile, gun violence is so rare in England that the most dangerous issues politicians have to deal with is a new ';anti knife'; initiative.

Now, it's no fun being stabbed, but you don't do much damge in a drive-by knife-throwing and you can at most stab one or two people in a brawl or crowd before you are piled on.

And I am an arch-conservative. I just don't trust the ';ignorant masses'; to have the responsibility to handle and control guns. I know it sounds condescending, but when you see the absolute stupidity in day to day life, I don't know how ANYONE can be FOR giving these people the right to carry concealed weapons.

Everyone should see the movie ';Idiocracy';. It shows what America will be like in 50 years if we don't do something about the downward slide with guns, trash music, poor morals, etc. Plus, it's hilariously funny.
Thre is constant talk about gun control everyday of the year by people like Kennedy, Schumer, Clinton, Bloomberg, etc.
No. They didn't because the only people who could possibly support the irrationality of gun control are the liberals, and for them it's a controversial issue. The current democrats are NOT for taking a controversial stance because they are basically voting booths. That's why you see Reid saying, ';Let's not argue about gun control. This tragedy is so immense, our minds should be on the victims.';
Oh yes, but only by the uneducated, liberals and communists.

Gun control causes crime. Gun control has never worked anywhere so why cite it as a solution? Gun control is for Stalin and Hitler, not free Americans.

I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

The killer alone caused the crime, but the high number of victims is directly caused by gun control. The Virginia Tech killer never registered his gun, so why cite registration as a solution?

They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson. Concealed-carry advocates warned us all long ago to expect tragedies like this as long as we have gun control.

When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like ';notifications.'; Up to two million Americans defend themselves with guns and citizens with guns legally kill two times as many would-be killers as do police!

In a state where concealed-carry is allowed or promoted, the loss of life could have been much less. He may have shot one or two, but a concealed-carrier would have dispatched him right quick.

Sadly there is no way to prevent a killer with a gun. In tribal Africa where there are no manufactured guns, tribesman make them from pipes and rubber-bands so clearly gun control is not the answer. You can make a gun out of wood in an hour! He could have stabbed just as many with a knife.

Since you will never stop the OFFENSE, we must allow ourselves a DEFENSE. We are not all of one culture anymore, so violence will only increase.

HB 1572 was a Virginia state bill to allow college students to carry arms on campus to protect themselves from tragedies like what happened at Virginia Tech. The bill was defeated

The spokesman for Virginia Tech was happy to hear the bill [HB 1572] was defeated. ';I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.';

The fact is NOT passing the bill allowing students to defend themselves caused many more deaths. States that pass concealed-carry laws experience lower crime rates, Texas is a good example of this.

The only way to prevent these killing rampages is concealed-carry. Would you rather protect yourself or wait for the folly of police or school ';notification?”
Yes, it was in the newspaper.
I have to agree wholeheartedly with Viceroy in his post about the ';ignorant masses'; armed with guns. I too am a ';arch-conservative'; in that I do not support the economic proliferation of ammunition or hand gun or fully automatic weapons to a mass of consumers that are uneducated and unaware of the depravity that using a weapon on another human being is like. I can cite the oppressive regimes of past dictatorships all night long, which is a moot point in a capitalist economy run by a representative democracy!! If any one person can honestly say the the USA is better of with more guns, more ammunition, and more potential for violence on the streets in every household, you are living in an oblivion. I asked a friend if he'd ever own a gun, and he said'; No. Not because I fear what others might do, but I fear what I might do if I was pushed far enough over the edge.'; Its simple statistics people!! When one variable is multiplied by a more of another variable, the percentage of increase in the outcome is inevitable!! If one reasonable person is angered to the point of mistaken judgment, would've anyone believe that the possibility of violence is exponentially increased when a deadly weapon is involved?? Think about it!! You at a bar or club, you see a girl, she flirts, she's married, husband sees this, lacks proper judgment due to inebriation, waits outside with his legally purchased, registered, permitted concealed handgun to ';hurt you';. You die from internal bleeding. Years ago, he'd woild've just picked a fight with you. Oh, and this actually happened in Houston (my home town) in the 1990's. Guns are needed to protect homes, but everyone need not feel the need to have a weapon at all times, lest we all revert back to the Dark Ages!! Are we a civilized people or just civil hoard??
of guns against criminals or guns for pople who could have used them in this incident? Get a clue.
